Carrickfergus Central Primary School


Carrickfergus Central Primary School is a co-educational controlled primary school which opened in February 1953 to cater for the educational needs of children who lived in the town centre. Today pupils travel from around the town and beyond to the school.

The school was built to accommodate 300 pupils. There are 9 classrooms in a two storey building, 2 mobiles, a hall/gymnasium and a dining hall.

There are seven full time teachers, 1 part-time SEN teacher and Principal. Currently there are 155 pupils in the school.
The school accommodates the Greengables Play Group in one of its classrooms.

School TripCarrickfergus Central Primary School sets out to create a caring and supportive environment where all children can develop to the best of their ability to achieve success in the opportunities offered to them.

Children have opportunities to participate in a wide range of curricular and extra-curricular activities. The school has a long tradition of music with both an orchestra and a choir.School Trip

The school recognises the value of experience beyond the classroom with all pupils benefiting from visits to places of interest. Year 6 and 7 pupils are given the opportunity to travel to Britain.

There is a thriving PTA which makes a valuable contribution towards the social and educational development of the school.
